Important Information on Inclement Weather

Student safety is the first priority of the HRSB when making school cancellation decisions. Schools will be kept open except under extreme circumstances to provide the option of attendance for all, but the decision to attend school during inclement weather conditions is the responsibility of each family. If it is safe, then the Superintendent will decide to leave schools open. If it is not safe, all or some schools may be closed depending on the weather and road conditions in different areas. For full day closures of all or some schools, the decision will be announced as close to 6:00 am as possible.

Announcements will be:
• Posted to the HRSB’s website (www.hrsb.ca)
• Posted to HRSB’s Twitter account (HRSB_Official)
• Recorded on the HRSB’s School Cancellation Information Line 464-INFO (4636)
• Shared with subscribers to the board’s email and text notification system, and
• Communicated to local media outlets

*Please note:
MVEC is within the Musquodoboit Valley Family of Schools. Only the Superintendent decides to close schools.

Partial and Complete School Closure- If conditions deteriorate throughout the day, the Superintendent may close schools early. If forecasted inclement weather is imminent later in the day, an announcement could be made in advance, at 6 am, or deferred until nearer 11 am. In the event of an early school closure, school busses will arrive two hours earlier then their normal regularly scheduled pick-up for the afternoon dismissal, which in our case is 12:50. Please note some school busses may be delayed due to changing weather conditions.

Cancellation of Bus Runs- Schools OpenOn school days when conditions exist that it is not safe to operate buses there may be a decision to cancel bussing but keep schools open. Again, the cancelled buses and impacted school will be identified by 6 am. * Please note: Bus drivers continue to use their discretion on back roads.

NEW- Delayed Opening of Schools- On school days when conditions exist that it is not safe to open schools at the regularly scheduled time but it is predicted that conditions will improve, it may be announced that bus pick up times and school opening will be delayed two hours, and dismiss at their usual time.
